A CENTURY OF HIS GRACE
Dear Moline Church family,
Please take some precious time to reflect on what you will find in this anniversary booklet. It contains reflections on the past century--1908-2008. This is a focused and special time of reflection. It is reflection on a powerful theme for the Moline Christian Reformed Church: "Praising the Lord for a Century of His Grace."
Let's reflect on this theme in the light of God's Word in Ephesians 1:3-14. In Ephesians1:7-8 we hear God speak to us about His purposes for His world through the work of His Son, Jesus Christ: "In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace that He lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding." We cannot begin to grasp the unimaginable changes that have taken place in God's world since 1908. This booklet reflects only a tiny part of those events as God grew the Moline Christian Reformed Church for 100 years. What we can grasp is that the constant and controlling power behind everything that happened is God's grace in Jesus Christ.
What do we know about this amazing grace of God? First of all, we know that it is 100% His gift. We have neither earned nor deserve any of these glorious riches. Secondly, we hear God say in Ephesians that He "lavished" this grace upon us. Lavish means: "to pour out without restraint." God did not merely sprinkle or even shower us with His grace, He immersed and soaked us in His grace. Finally, God has "engraced" us "...with wisdom and understanding." In other words, God pours out His grace in a way that is for our good and His glory in the redemption of our lives in Jesus Christ.
Please take some precious time to enjoy and celebrate what God has done for a century in the life of our congregation. Praise Him for the riches of His grace. And pray in gratitude as the Lord begins to bless another century of His glorious grace in Jesus Christ.
